Maryville school families create sense of belonging

MARYVILLE, MO – Maryville Middle School is using The Leader in Me to bring their student body closer together. In an effort to build relationships between their students both young and old the school created school families to foster belonging and acceptance. This is the second year of the initiative and the comfort level between fifth and eighth graders has already increased.

KANSAS CITY, MO – After watching a video on how students can learn to set goals and develop plans, students at Bonner Springs Elementary wanted to do more than just discuss what they had seen, they wanted to experience what they had just seen. SUMITON, AL – Sumiton Middle School faculty wanted to take their students beyond academic achievement, they’re able to do that with The Leader in Me. To demonstrate and practice their leadership skills, students at Sumiton Middle treated local law enforcement officers to lunch and on the school’s largest service day, students cleaned the inside of school buses.

Each house is able to earn points through activities and exemplary behavior. Each house hosts get-to-know-you activities and projects that last the whole year.

CANON CITY, CO – A couple of Washington Elementary fifth-graders went to prison recently. The two Washington Elementary students were able to meet with a group of prison staff who had recently participated in a 7 Habits of Highly Effective People work session. The students were able to share their knowledge of the 7 Habits and other leadership skills and principles they have learned through The Leader in Me process, a staple at Washington Elementary.
Education Foundation turns 30, expands school leadership program

HENDERSONVILLE, NC – The Henderson County Education Foundation is expanding their support for The Leader in Me. The Leader in Me is expanding beyond Dana and Sugarloaf elementary schools to all elementary schools in Henderson County. Foundation Executive Director Paul Knott indicated that EOG test scores at Sugarloaf improved 50 percent from the beginning of the program to the end of the second year.

Elisabeth Carter has started a mobile version of the Little Free Library, a free book exchange for her class mates.
