Leadership Day showcases implementation of Leader in Me program

HENDERSON, KY – Sturgis Elementary recently hosted a Leadership Event to demonstrate the leadership and life skills that their students have been learning through The Leader in Me process. One teacher commented, “the students are taking ownership of their learning. They set both academic and personal goals for themselves. They help keeps us as teachers on track in a polite, positive way. They always want to help us complete tasks to make our school better.”

BRADFORD, PA – As part of a large area initiative to honor the nations veterans, students from Bradford area schools partnered with other local organizations to celebrate Veteran’s Day. Focusing on the skills exhibited through The Leader in Me process, students hosted assemblies, crafted emblems and participated in a parade to commemorate and honor those who have sacrificed so much for the United States.

CLAREMONT, NC – A focus of The Leader in Me is celebrating differences. Students at Oxford Elementary School gathered together recently to celebrate the diversity that exists in their school. A big focus of the celebration was Dia de los Muertos, however students built stations representing each culture within the school and manned those stations to explain each respective heritage.

Using The Leader in Me model, The Coffee Club was an initiative which started four years ago to help students with disabilities gain self-confidence and interpersonal skills. The two Washington Elementary students were able to meet with a group of prison staff who had recently participated in a 7 Habits of Highly Effective People work session. The students were able to share their knowledge of the 7 Habits and other leadership skills and principles they have learned through The Leader in Me process, a staple at Washington Elementary.
Education Foundation turns 30, expands school leadership program

HENDERSONVILLE, NC – The Henderson County Education Foundation is expanding their support for The Leader in Me. The Leader in Me is expanding beyond Dana and Sugarloaf elementary schools to all elementary schools in Henderson County. Foundation Executive Director Paul Knott indicated that EOG test scores at Sugarloaf improved 50 percent from the beginning of the program to the end of the second year.
