PADUCAH, KY – Though new to the Leader in Me, teachers and administrators have noted a marked difference in the school’s climate this year. Student engagement is manifest in its Lighthouse Team, a team of students that meets monthly. “Instead of the teachers doing all the work at every event, the kids take responsibility…” said Timothy Watkins, a Paducah Middle eighth grader and Lighthouse member. “But it’s fun.”

GEORGE, UT - The Leader in Me Symposium, held at the Dixie Convention Center from Feb. 1-3, gave staff development and teacher training to local educators by providing opportunities to collaborate with teachers from across the country and become better educated on implementing the Leader in Me program. “When you have great educators who have passion and will make a difference in the lives of kids…you’re going to have a great school.” Ron Clark, the founder of the Ron Clark Academy, said.

"This helps us to be proactive, to make better choices and it helps us focus on what's in the moment and not what's bothering us outside the classroom," third grade teacher Lisa Bristle said. "We train our brains to help us focus in the moment and we focus on one thing."

DALEVILLE, AL – Students at Windham Elementary School are putting their leadership skills to good use by organizing their second annual coat drive. They collected over 200 coats last year, and hope to do even better this year. WES has been practicing the “Leader in Me” model—a transformational process aimed at creating leaders—for more than four years now. “We have seen such a remarkable change in our students as they learn to be leaders. Activities such as the coat drive are an extension of this,” Principal Christopher Mitten said.

Anthony wants to either become an architect or a senator when he grows up. The means the school has achieved outstanding results in school and student outcomes such as decreasing disciplinary actions and bullying in the school by implementing The Leader in Me process. Never ones to be complacent, Benjamin Harrison Principal Leah Filliater said. “We are thinking of what steps we can do to get better.”

ALBIA, IA – The Leader in Me process is having a profound impact on Grant Elementary and Lincoln Center Schools. It’s helped develop a school culture that is friendly and productive. Teacher Larry Achenbach said, “It’s amazing when you see the kids talking to one another like adults would in order to solve a problem.” Principal Joellen Breon shared a recent example of three students helping set up a teacher’s classroom in the morning because she was running late.
