All too often we get caught up in negative things like the antics of our school board and superintendent, educational standards, charter schools, school vouchers, and the list goes on. It is truly refreshing to hear about some of the good things happening in schools.

At the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce, we are more than proud of The Leader In Me and the leadership qualities it is instilling in our children. On a regular basis, we hear success stories from educators, parents and the children themselves.
Today, we wanted to share a couple of those stories from parents who have seen firsthand the impact of The Leader In Me in their child’s school. Together we are making a difference!
Covey based 'Leader in Me' program at Mitchell-Neilsen this fall!

Mitchell-Neilson School will introduce the Leader in Me program in the 2014-15 school year and invites the public to attend an overview of The Leader in Me transformational leadership process. The session will be held Wednesday, May 14, 4-6 p.m. in the Mitchell-Neilson Elementary Gymnasium.
Washington Elementary School's program promotes culture of leadership

The school's "Leader in Me" program promotes a culture of leadership, and through Stephen Covey's book, "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families," school staff, students and families learn to use those habits to make a difference in their homes, in their school and in the world.

As Camdenton Rotary members walked into their monthly meeting at Golden Rock Winery on Wednesday, they were greeted by elementary-aged students.
A total of 13 students from Osage Beach Elementary and Hurricane Beach Elementary spoke to the members about what they are learning through the ‘Leader in Me’ program that has been implemented in their schools.

We couldn’t be more proud of the work of our students, teachers, administrators and business community have put forth to make The Leader In Me a model for education across the country. With our eye ever on the future, Bowling Green and Warren County have made a commitment to creating a talented and capable workforce by growing leadership skills from the earliest possible moment. We have been fortunate to have a business community that has the resources and foresight to fund this pilot initiative. The mission, however, has always been to see The Leader In Me expanded to schools all across the state.

Who knew that by implementing The Leader in Me, Warren County and Bowling Green would become the “go-to” Leader in Me capital of the commonwealth and the Southeast?
As many of our schools continue training and implementation on the path to Lighthouse Status, a certification level when The Leader in Me operations are considered self-sustaining and permanent, they have become the center of statewide and national attention.
